UN Secretary-General Addresses Suspension of NGOs in Occupied Palestinian Territory

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the recent announcement from Israeli authorities to suspend the operations of several international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) currently working in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Secretary-General calls for an immediate reversal of this measure. He stresses that international non-governmental organizations are indispensable to the delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance. This suspension risks severely undermining the fragile progress achieved during the recent ceasefire and will further paralyze relief efforts.

This latest development follows a series of existing restrictions that have already caused significant delays in the delivery of critical food, medical, hygiene, and shelter supplies into Gaza. The Secretary-General warns that this action will further exacerbate the catastrophic humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian civilians.

The Secretary-General underscores that, pursuant to its obligations under international humanitarian law, Israel must allow and facilitate the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief for all civilians in need.
