US-Israel-Iran War Enters Day 13 as Death Toll Surpasses 1,300

As the military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran enters its 13th day, the human and economic costs of the conflict have reached critical levels. Reports from Tehran indicate that at least 1,348 civilians have been killed and over 17,000 injured since the initiation of US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

The war has now expanded into a multifaceted regional crisis, characterized by heavy strikes in Lebanon, drone swarms across the Gulf, and a global energy shock that has pushed oil prices to $100 per barrel.

Developments in Iran: Humanitarian Crisis and Terms for Peace

President Masoud Pezeshkian has signaled a potential opening for diplomacy, outlining three non-negotiable conditions to end the war:

  • Recognition of Tehran’s legitimate rights.

  • Payment of reparations for damages incurred.

  • Firm international guarantees against future aggression.

Despite these overtures, the conflict remains fierce. UNICEF has labeled the situation for children as “catastrophic,” with over 1,100 children reported killed or wounded. On the military front, the IRGC confirmed a joint missile operation with Hezbollah targeting Israel and reported firing on two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that allegedly ignored warnings.

The Gulf Front: Interceptions and Infrastructure Damage

Gulf nations continue to bear the brunt of Iranian retaliatory strikes:

  • Saudi Arabia: The Ministry of Defence intercepted and destroyed multiple drones targeting the Shaybah oilfield and a district housing foreign embassies.

  • UAE: Emirati defenses intercepted a massive wave of 6 ballistic missiles, 7 cruise missiles, and 39 drones on March 11. Consequently, Citibank announced the closure of nearly all branches in the region following Iranian threats.

  • Kuwait & Oman: Falling debris from intercepted drones damaged six electricity lines in Kuwait, while a drone strike at Oman’s Port of Salalah damaged several fuel tanks.

  • Bahrain: Authorities arrested four citizens on charges of spying for the IRGC following attacks on fuel tanks in Muharraq.

Washington and Tel Aviv: “No Time Limit”

While President Trump claimed the U.S. has already “won” the campaign, declaring Iran to be “at the end of the line,” military activities suggest a prolonged engagement.

  • War Costs: Lawmakers were briefed that the opening week of the war cost the U.S. military $11.3 billion.

  • Targeting Errors: Reports surfaced that a U.S. Tomahawk missile likely hit an Iranian school due to a targeting mistake, resulting in over 170 deaths.

  • Israeli Objectives: Defence Minister Israel Katz affirmed the operation will continue “without any time limit” until all objectives are achieved. Israel has launched a “large-scale wave of strikes” on Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut, resulting in at least 7 deaths in the seafront area.

Global Energy and Maritime Fallout

The conflict has effectively weaponized the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a spike in global oil prices.

  • Emergency Reserves: The International Energy Agency (IEA) is releasing a record 400 million barrels of crude oil—with 172 million from the U.S. alone—to stabilize markets.

  • Maritime Attacks: Two oil tankers were attacked off Iraq’s coast, resulting in at least one confirmed death and several missing crew members.
