As U.S.-aligned Gulf states expend missiles to counter Iranian drones, Zelensky cautioned that Ukraine’s defensive capabilities are being precariously depleted. Furthermore, the war has handed Moscow an economic windfall. With the Strait of Hormuz blockaded, oil prices have surged to 100 USD per barrel. To stabilize markets, the Trump administration temporarily eased sanctions on Russian oil, directly boosting Moscow’s war economy, a move Zelensky strongly criticized.

Diplomatically, the Middle East war has derailed the U.S.-led peace talks for Ukraine, allowing Russia to press its military advantage. In response, Kyiv is offering its “irreplaceable” expertise in countering Iranian-designed drones to Middle Eastern allies, hoping to exchange this technical training for the high-end air-defense systems necessary to protect Ukrainian cities from intensified Russian aggression.
