Oscar-winning actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie used her global platform to highlight the devastating human cost of the latest wave of unrest in Iran. Sharing a heart-wrenching image of a seven-year-old girl lying on her mother’s grave, Jolie identified the victim as Parisa Lashkari, 30, who was reportedly shot and killed by security forces during a demonstration in Noorabad, Fars province, on January 10.

“No child should have to carry this kind of grief,” Jolie wrote in a widely shared Instagram post. She called for accountability for those responsible and urged the international community to demand protection for civilians. Her message joins a growing chorus of international voices condemning the crackdown on protests that erupted in late December 2025. Human rights groups report that families of the slain, including Lashkari’s, have faced immense pressure from authorities, with some being denied the right to hold public funerals or being forced to pay “bullet fees” to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones.

Jolie’s advocacy is part of her long-standing commitment to human rights, having recently visited the Rafah crossing in Egypt to support Gaza aid efforts earlier this month. As the Doomsday Clock ticks closer to midnight and U.S. military assets surge in the Gulf, Jolie’s post serves as a stark reminder that beneath the geopolitical maneuvers lie individual lives destroyed by conflict.
