Afghan FM Muttaqi: D.C. Shooting Is Solely an Individual Act

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan issues this official statement to clarify its position on the recent criminal incident in Washington, D.C., involving an Afghan immigrant.

Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi categorically stated today that the shooting of National Guard members in the American capital is solely an individual criminal act and bears absolutely no connection to the honorable people or the current government of Afghanistan.

Minister Muttaqi further emphasized that the individual in question, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was previously associated with and trained by American agencies. “This is an individual criminal act, and the person who committed it was trained by the Americans themselves,” Minister Muttaqi said, referencing reports that the suspect was part of a CIA-backed unit during the previous administration.

The Ministry reiterates that the responsibility for the individual’s presence and actions in the United States lies with the U.S. government. Minister Muttaqi pointed out that American officials “trained him, they assigned him, and through an illegal process, contrary to any international standard, they brought him from Afghanistan to the United States.”

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan firmly rejects any attempt by foreign elements to exploit this singular crime to generalize, defame, or impose collective punishment on the millions of Afghan nationals residing abroad or the dignified people of Afghanistan. The Ministry calls on all parties to adhere to facts and refrain from political opportunism in the face of a sensitive criminal investigation.
