Israeli Forces Launch New Operation in Tubas, Northern West Bank

Israeli security forces entered the West Bank city of Tubas on Wednesday, deploying troops across multiple neighbourhoods and ordering some Palestinian residents to evacuate their homes as part of a new military operation in the northern West Bank.

Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad said Israeli forces, supported by a helicopter that opened fire, encircled the city and established positions throughout residential areas. He added that residents forced from their homes were instructed not to return until the conclusion of the operation, which he expects could last several days. According to local officials, at least 22 Palestinians have been detained, while roadblocks were set up and rooftops of buildings commandeered by troops.

The Israeli military stated that the operation, conducted alongside police and intelligence units, began early Wednesday following preliminary intelligence indicating attempts to establish militant strongholds and infrastructure in the area. During searches of dozens of homes, Israeli forces said they identified what was described as an “observational control room.”

Israeli military vehicles were seen patrolling the streets of Tubas, with troops carrying rifles and rocket launchers. Similar movements were reported in the nearby town of Tammun.

The latest incursion forms part of a broader campaign across northern West Bank cities, extending operations previously carried out in areas including Jenin. The West Bank is home to approximately 2.7 million Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation, alongside hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers.

Authorities on both sides remain on high alert as the situation continues to unfold.
