Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan announced today that U.S. President Donald Trump will visit the capital on October 26 to formally oversee the signing of the declaration.
“During the summit, we look forward to the signing of a declaration known as the Kuala Lumpur Accord between these two neighboring nations to ensure peace and a lasting ceasefire,” said Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.
This significant agreement follows recent tensions and persistent disputes over unmarked sections of the Thai-Cambodian border. The Accord is a testament to the diplomatic efforts led by the two nations, alongside key regional and international partners, including the crucial roles played by Malaysia and the United States.
Malaysia is honoured to host this ceremony, which highlights ASEAN’s commitment to regional stability and conflict resolution. The Kuala Lumpur Accord is anticipated to fully solidify the ceasefire and establish a framework for long-term peace and cooperation along the border.
The 47th ASEAN Summit will bring together heads of state from 10 Southeast Asian nations and various Dialogue Partners, underscoring the region’s collective commitment to a stable and prosperous future.
