Islamabad – September 6, 2025 – The leadership of the Pakistan Armed Forces, including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, today paid a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and their families on the occasion of the 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day.
In a joint statement, the Armed Forces leadership honored the sacrifices made on September 6, 1965, a date that “epitomizes the unflinching resolve and unshakeable spirit of the Pakistani nation.” The statement underscored how brave soldiers, supported by a united nation, successfully stood against aggression from an enemy “far superior in arms and numbers,” thwarting their “nefarious designs.” The heroic valor and sacrifices made during this historic event serve as an enduring message that a unified nation can never be defeated.
The statement further highlighted that the courage of these “fearless heroes continues to inspire future generations” and that their legacy will endure forever. The nation was called upon to honor and salute its martyrs, its ghazis (victorious warriors), and their resilient families who have made unparalleled sacrifices for the security and greatness of the country.
Beyond their core mission of defending against external aggression and terrorism, the statement also acknowledged the Armed Forces’ continuous support for the people of Pakistan during times of crisis and natural disasters. This year, the forces have pledged their full support to the victims of the ongoing floods across Pakistan, and will celebrate Defence and Martyrs’ Day with utmost humility and a focus on assisting those in need.
The Armed Forces leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the sacred trust placed in them by the nation. They concluded by stating that the Pakistan Armed Forces “remain ever vigilant and prepared to defend the country against all kinds of threats,” and that any attempt to disrupt the nation’s peace “will be met with a befitting and decisive response.”
