Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, today urged the international community and the Security Council to prioritize investment in conflict prevention, dialogue, and the pacific settlement of disputes, in line with the reaffirmation contained in Security Council Resolution 2788.

Ambassador Ahmad delivered his remarks during a meeting of the 15-member Council following a briefing by the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Foreign Minister of Finland, Elina Valtonen.
In his statement, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the need for a fundamental shift towards diplomatic engagement to address global challenges.
“We must rekindle the spirit of Helsinki, avoid confrontation, invest more in dialogue and diplomacy, and renew our unwavering commitment to crafting mutually agreed Confidence and Security-Building Measures (CBMs),” Ambassador Ahmad stated.
Pakistan underscored that proactive investment in preventive diplomacy and the strengthening of established mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution are essential pillars for maintaining international peace and security. The call highlights Pakistan’s firm belief that collective security can only be achieved through genuine cooperation and a commitment to reducing tensions through verifiable and transparent measures.
