Fleet Expansion: PNSC Inducts New Aframax Tanker “MT Lahore”

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) announced the successful induction of a new Aframax oil tanker, MT Lahore, into its managed fleet. The vessel, acquired through the subsidiary Lahore Shipping (Pvt) Ltd, boasts a significant deadweight tonnage of 112,051 tonnes. This move follows a material information disclosure submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), marking a major milestone in the corporation’s ongoing fleet expansion strategy first detailed in October 2025.

The addition of MT Lahore is part of a broader push to revitalize Pakistan’s maritime logistics. In the first two months of 2026 alone, PNSC has rapidly increased its capacity, inducting the MT Karachi (109,990 DWT) in January and the MT Quetta (49,999 DWT) just last week. These Aframax tankers are globally favored for their medium-range versatility, allowing them to access ports that larger carriers cannot.

The expansion aims to bolster national energy security and save vital foreign exchange by reducing reliance on expensive foreign shipping lines. Under its 2026–2030 business plan, the government intends to grow the PNSC fleet from 10 to over 50 vessels, positioning the national flag carrier as a dominant player in regional energy transportation.
