OpenAI’s Sora has officially taken the top spot as the No. 1 free app on the Google Play Store, overtaking ChatGPT just days after its Android launch. According to analytics firm Appfigures, the AI video app was downloaded nearly 470,000 times on its first day, four times more than its iOS debut in September.

Originally released with invite-only access, Sora has now opened up globally, a move that has fueled its explosive growth. The app allows users to generate and edit AI-powered videos, featuring tools like Cameos, storyboarding, and new in-app editing options. OpenAI says upcoming updates will bring improved creation tools, expanded social features, and tighter safeguards against deepfakes, including collaboration with unions and public figures.
