The Economic and Industrial Agenda
A cornerstone of the visit is the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, organized by the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO). PM Shehbaz and Chancellor Stocker will co-chair a high-level meeting of business leaders to explore:
-
Trade and Investment: Increasing the volume of bilateral trade and encouraging Austrian investment in Pakistan’s industrial sectors.
-
Sustainable Development: Collaborative projects aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
-
Counter-Narcotics: Strengthening ties with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to combat regional crime and narcotics trafficking.
Nuclear Cooperation and Global Diplomacy
In a move to bolster Pakistan’s “peaceful nuclear energy” profile, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This follows the signing of the Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2026–2031 in late 2025, which identifies food security, health, and climate-resilient nuclear power as top priorities.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will address a special United Nations event themed “Sustainable Development: The Path to Global Peace and Prosperity,” reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to a rules-based international order.
