Apple Nears $1B Deal with Google to Power Siri Using Gemini AI

Apple is reportedly close to finalizing a $1 billion agreement with Google to integrate its Gemini AI model into a redesigned version of Siri, marking one of the company’s biggest steps toward embracing external AI technology.

According to Bloomberg, the deal would make Google’s 1.2-trillion-parameter Gemini model the foundation for Siri’s 2026 relaunch, promising enhanced contextual understanding, multimodal features, and deeper integration across Apple devices.

The partnership reflects Apple’s strategic pivot as it races to catch up with Microsoft and OpenAI, whose AI integrations have redefined user expectations.

While Apple’s own Apple Intelligence platform focuses on on-device privacy, collaboration with Google may raise new concerns over data control and trust, given Gemini’s reliance on cloud processing.

If finalized, the deal would expand Apple and Google’s long-standing relationship, one already under regulatory scrutiny due to Google’s role as Safari’s default search provider.
