The Trump administration cited the groups’ “activities against Israeli interests” and alleged support for Hamas as primary reasons for the move. “Chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood purport to be legitimate civic organizations while, behind the scenes, they explicitly support terrorist groups,” the U.S. Treasury stated.
