US, and Ukraine Negotiators to Meet in Miami After ‘No Compromise’ Moscow Talks

Following nearly five hours of talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Kremlin described as yielding “no compromise” on ending the war, US special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Ukraine’s national security chief, Rustem Umerov, in Miami on Thursday.

The White House confirmed the meeting after President Donald Trump described the initial negotiations in Moscow, which were also attended by Jared Kushner, as “reasonably good,” though he acknowledged that reaching a resolution would not be an “easy task.”

Putin publicly reiterated Moscow’s key demand that Ukrainian troops must withdraw from the Donbas region, stating that the territories would either be liberated by force or evacuated by Ukrainian troops.

While the US envoys reportedly left the meeting with the impression that Putin genuinely desires an end to the conflict, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybhia accused the Russian leader of “wasting the world’s time,” with Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna noting there was “not too much progress” but stressing Ukraine’s commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace backed by international pressure.
