President Asif Ali Zardari Arrives in UAE for Landmark Four-Day Official Visit to Strengthen Economic Ties

President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in the United Arab Emirates tonight for a high-profile four-day official visit aimed at elevating the strategic partnership between Pakistan and the UAE.

Upon arrival at Zayed International Airport, the President was accorded a warm welcome by UAE Minister of Justice, His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi. The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari and Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Shafqat Ali Khan, was also present to receive the delegation.

Diplomatic Engagement and Economic Focus

Shortly after his arrival, President Zardari held an initial meeting with the UAE Justice Minister at the presidential flight terminal, setting a productive tone for the four-day mission scheduled from January 26 to 29.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, this visit is designed to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The President is scheduled to hold high-level consultations with the UAE leadership, with a primary focus on:

  • Trade and Investment: Expanding economic cooperation and identifying new avenues for mutually rewarding partnerships.
  • People-to-People Ties: Strengthening the bonds between the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in the UAE and their home country.
  • Regional Security: Exchanging views on international issues and matters of mutual interest to maintain regional stability.

A Continued Momentum of “Brotherly Ties”

This visit follows closely on the heels of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to Pakistan last month, signaling a significant intensification of diplomatic activity. It also builds upon the recent meetings between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the UAE leadership in Rahim Yar Khan.

The Foreign Office highlighted that this trip reaffirms the commitment of both nations to transform their longstanding “brotherly ties” into a robust, modern economic partnership. Notable recent progress includes the January 13 agreement regarding “pre-immigration clearance” for Pakistani nationals, which is expected to facilitate smoother travel and business exchanges between the two countries.

The visit underscores Pakistan’s “Economic Diplomacy” initiative, seeking to leverage historic friendships for sustainable growth and regional connectivity.
