During the visit, the Air Chief held separate meetings with Lieutenant General Turki bin Bander bin Abdulaziz, Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF), and General Fayiadh bin Hameed Al-Rowaily, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces.
The Saudi defense leadership commended the PAF for its:
- Professionalism and Operational Excellence: Recognition of the PAF’s combat readiness and recent performance in international exercises.
- Multi-Domain Capabilities: Strong interest was expressed in the PAF’s integration of Space, Cyber, Electronic Warfare, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its operational framework.
- Regional Stability: The Saudi leadership appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role” in maintaining regional peace and security.
Strategic Agreements and JF-17 Procurement
The visit took place against the backdrop of significant reports regarding the Pakistan-KSA Defence Agreement signed last year. Discussions focused on deepening engagement through joint training, operational collaboration, and the exchange of technical expertise.
Of particular note are the ongoing high-level negotiations regarding the JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. Key points of discussion reported include:
- Loan-to-Asset Conversion: Talks involve converting approximately $2 billion of existing Saudi loans into a procurement deal for the JF-17 Thunder, a multi-role combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China.
- Projected Deal Value: Sources indicate a total potential deal value of $4 billion, including an additional $2 billion for auxiliary equipment and support.
