This week marks the first anniversary of the brief but intense military conflict between Pakistan and India, which took place from April 22nd to May 10th of last year. Tensions reached a boiling point following the April 22nd attack on tourists in Pahalgam, India-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi, without providing evidence, immediately blamed Pakistan for the attack, sparking a dangerous escalation.

On May 7th, New Delhi launched air strikes in Punjab and Azad Kashmir. Pakistan responded by downing five Indian planes in air-to-air combat, later raising the tally to seven. Following reciprocal strikes on airbases and the launch of Pakistan Army’s Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, a ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10th through American intervention.
The Pakistan Army has designated the period from April 22nd to May 10th as “Marka-i-Haq.”
This week, we will be revisiting daily headlines from this period, reflecting on the tensions that brought the two nations to the brink.
