“Send Your Son Donald Trump, If You Want War,” Spanish MEP Irene Montero Goes Beyond Rhetoric

Mar 11, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

Spanish Member of the European Parliament Irene Montero has ignited a fierce debate across the continent with a recent address from the Podemos podium. As the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran enters a critical stage, Montero has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of the military campaign, framing it as a threat to both global security and European autonomy.

Montero directly challenged the leaders advocating for expanded military intervention by urging politicians to send their own children to the frontlines before sacrificing the lives of working-class families. She also called for Spain to immediately exit the NATO alliance, arguing that it ‘no longer serves European interests’ but instead drags the continent into illegal wars of aggression. Following the Spanish government’s recent refusal to allow domestic bases to be used for strikes on Iran, Montero advocated for the permanent removal of all U.S. military installations from Spanish soil to prevent the country from becoming a target for retaliation. In a bold statement, she labeled the U.S.-Israel axis as a primary threat to humanity, accusing these powers of using military force to secure oil reserves and trade routes at the expense of international law.

Beyond military policy, Montero proposed a radical domestic strategy to protect citizens from the fallout of the war. With fuel and food prices skyrocketing, she demanded that the government implement “War Shields,” which would include strict price caps on energy, essential medications, and basic food items. She also pushed for entirely free public transit to help families manage the rising cost of living. Montero argued that ordinary people should not have to pay for what she termed “illegal invasions” and called for increased taxes on war profiteers to fund these social measures. Her call for independence has fueled a growing peace push across Europe, shaming leaders she describes as followers and encouraging a rewrite of traditional alliances.
