Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar today addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in the Middle East, delivering a strong call for immediate and decisive action to end the suffering in Gaza. As part of a high-level Pakistani delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, FM Dar is in New York for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

In his address, Foreign Minister Dar described Gaza as a “graveyard for humanity and the global conscience,” highlighting the dire humanitarian situation, with catastrophic conditions and the imminent threat of famine. “The time for words has passed, the time for action is now,” he stated, urging the international community to uphold human dignity, ensure accountability, and deliver justice.
The Foreign Minister also welcomed the growing international recognition of a Palestinian state, noting that it “reflects adherence to justice and the principle of international law.” He commended the recent formal recognitions extended by France and Monaco, as well as the French-Saudi co-sponsored summit on the two-state solution.
Later, while addressing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Committee of Six on Palestine, FM Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He called on the OIC to press urgently for a permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, an end to illegal settlements, accountability for war crimes, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Throughout his visit, FM Dar has engaged in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings to advance Pakistan’s diplomatic agenda. He met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to strengthen bilateral ties. Additionally, he held consultations with the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Hungarian Foreign Minister to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation in various sectors.
The Prime Minister’s participation at the UNGA, accompanied by senior ministers including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, will continue to highlight Pakistan’s position on key international issues, including Kashmir, climate change, terrorism, and sustainable development.
