Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has made history by becoming only the second men’s player to reach the incredible milestone of 900 career goals. During Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Nashville FC on Wednesday, the 38-year-old Olympic champion found the back of the net with a signature left-footed strike early in the match. Although Inter Miami ultimately exited the tournament following a 1-1 draw, the night belonged to Messi as he joined his long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the elite “900 Club.” Messi reached this landmark in 1,142 appearances, achieving the feat nearly 100 games faster than Ronaldo, who hit the same mark in late 2024.

The vast majority of Messi’s goals were scored during his storied 17-year tenure at Barcelona, where he tallied 672 goals. His current career total also includes 115 goals for the Argentine national team, 81 for Inter Miami, and 32 during his time with Paris Saint-Germain. Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano described the achievement as “insane,” noting that he felt privileged to witness such a unique talent continue to break records. While Messi celebrates this historic moment, the race for 1,000 goals continues, with Ronaldo currently leading the pack at 965. Fans are now eagerly watching to see if Messi can bridge the gap as he eyes a potential appearance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
