Feb 13, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai received a prestigious honor at Oxford University with the unveiling of her official portrait at Lady Margaret Hall (LMH). The artwork now hangs alongside that of the late Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, making Malala the second iconic Pakistani woman to be memorialized in the historic college’s halls. The ceremony was attended by her family, university faculty, and students, celebrating her decade-long advocacy for global girls’ education and her journey as an Oxford alumna.

During the unveiling, Malala delivered a powerful address focusing on the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan. She condemned the Taliban for their systematic “gender apartheid,” noting that depriving girls of schooling directly contradicts Islamic teachings. Malala urged the international community to halt the normalization of relations with the Taliban regime until women’s fundamental rights are restored. Her mother, Tor Pekai Yousafzai, also spoke at the event, expressing her immense pride in seeing her daughter’s legacy cemented at such a world-renowned institution.

The portrait serves as a permanent symbol of inspiration for future generations of students. It highlights Malala’s transformation from a young girl targeted for seeking an education into a global leader whose voice continues to challenge oppressive regimes and promote equality across the globe.
