ISLAMABAD – August 14, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the formation of a new Army Rocket Force Command, a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s defence capabilities. The announcement was made during a special ceremony at Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Stadium on the occasion of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, which also celebrated the nation’s victory in the recent military conflict with India, termed Marka-i-Haq (Battle of Truth).

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of strengthening the armed forces in the wake of the recent conflict. “Equipped with modern technology and capable of targeting the enemy from every direction, this force will prove another milestone in further strengthening our conventional war capabilities,” the Prime Minister stated. This strategic initiative is complemented by a 20 per cent increase in the nation’s defence budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026. The new command is part of a broader strategy to modernize Pakistan’s military infrastructure following the conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the military leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, for their coordinated and swift response to Indian aggression. He declared that the military confrontation, which concluded with a decisive victory for Pakistan within three to four days, taught India a lesson it will never forget. As a tribute to the victory, the Prime Minister also unveiled the digital model of the Marka-i-Haq Monument.
Additionally, the Prime Minister used the occasion to call for national unity, inviting all political parties to join a new pact, ‘Misaq-i-Istehkam-i-Pakistan’, for the greater national interest. He underscored that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is for defence purposes only and paid homage to the pioneers of the country’s atomic program. The high-profile event, which celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day, featured a parade by different branches of the armed forces, including personnel from Turkiye and Azerbaijan, as well as a spectacular fireworks display.
