General Asim Munir Conferred with Field Marshal Rank in Historic Ceremony

ISLAMABAD – August 14, 2025 – In a landmark ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir was officially conferred with the rank of Field Marshal. The historic event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, and top civil and military officials, celebrating the achievements of the distinguished military leader.

The government approved General Munir’s promotion in recognition of his strategic leadership during the highly successful “Operation Bunyānum Marsoos.” Under his command, the Pakistan Army demonstrated unparalleled professionalism and strategic foresight, leading to the decisive neutralization of security threats and the restoration of peace in key areas. His masterful planning and execution of the operation were critical in safeguarding national interests and reinforcing the country’s security posture.

The successful conclusion of this campaign is widely regarded as a significant achievement that has earned him the respect and admiration of both the military and the public. This makes him the second officer in Pakistan’s history to hold this prestigious rank, following Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1959. His promotion by an elected government is a significant moment, reinforcing the nation’s confidence in the military’s leadership.

Earlier in the day, General Asim Munir was honored with a special guard of honor at General Headquarters (GHQ). The ceremony at the President House marks the official investiture of the highest military rank, a testament to his exceptional service and strategic contributions to the nation’s security.
