ISLAMABAD – August 14, 2025 – In a landmark ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir was officially conferred with the rank of Field Marshal. The historic event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, and top civil and military officials, celebrating the achievements of the distinguished military leader.
The government approved General Munir’s promotion in recognition of his strategic leadership during the highly successful “Operation Bunyānum Marsoos.” Under his command, the Pakistan Army demonstrated unparalleled professionalism and strategic foresight, leading to the decisive neutralization of security threats and the restoration of peace in key areas. His masterful planning and execution of the operation were critical in safeguarding national interests and reinforcing the country’s security posture.

This makes him the second officer in Pakistan’s history to hold this prestigious rank, following Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1959.
