Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has successfully delivered a letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, who is recovering in a Philippines hospital after undergoing emergency amputation of his left lower leg due to a life-threatening blood clot.
The Duchess’s spokesperson confirmed the correspondence is “safely in his hands” after finding it “exceedingly difficult” to contact him privately, citing the constant presence of a Daily Mail reporter at his bedside who has been “broadcasting each interaction.”

The communication comes after Mr. Markle, a retired TV lighting director who has never met his grandchildren, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, gave an emotional interview pleading, “I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan.”
The relationship broke down ahead of the 2018 royal wedding after Mr. Markle admitted to staging paparazzi photos and later missed the ceremony due to heart problems, leading to King Charles III walking Meghan down the aisle. While the Duchess had initially attempted contact via a phone search and email, which her father reportedly “never uses” the letter signifies a breakthrough in communication.
A spokesperson for the Daily Mail’s parent company confirmed the journalist has a close relationship with Mr. Markle and is willing to facilitate a conversation, even as the situation remains publicly contentious
