Founding Membership and Strategic Role
Pakistan is among the 14 nations that signed the Board of Peace charter on January 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos. As a founding member, Islamabad’s participation underscores its commitment to regional stability and its historical role in international peacekeeping efforts.
The upcoming meeting at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) aims to define the board’s organizational framework, including:
- Structural Development: Finalizing the governance model and executive mandate.
- Secretariat Establishment: Setting up the administrative core at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.
- Gaza Reconstruction: Initial discussions regarding a fundraising component for the rebuilding of Gaza.

Clarification on Stabilization Forces
Regarding speculation about the deployment of an international stabilization force for Gaza, diplomatic officials stated that such discussions are currently premature. The primary focus of the February 19 session remains the formalization of the Board’s structure and its long-term direction.
“First we must define the mandate and direction of the Board,” a diplomatic source noted. “Any discussion regarding troop contributions would belong to a later stage of the peace process.”

Global Context and Diplomatic Landscape
The meeting is set to occur one day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to the White House. While the Board of Peace has garnered strong support from Middle Eastern allies, its emergence as a new multilateral mechanism continues to draw intense interest from the global diplomatic community.
Pakistan’s presence at the table ensures that the perspectives of key Muslim-majority nations are represented in the formulation of this new peace architecture.
