Today, Pakistan assumed the Presidency of the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. The Conference meetings on behalf of Pakistan are being presided over by:
- Additional Secretary (Arms Control and Disarmament)
- Foreign Office Spokesman Tahir Hussain Andrabi
Pakistan, during its presidency, will anchor negotiations in the First Committee of the UNGA on the Annual Report of the Conference and the corresponding resolution.

The United Nations Conference on Disarmament is a UN-led multilateral forum composed of 65 member states, inclusive of all nuclear-armed nations. The main purpose of this UN body is to negotiate disarmament and arms control.
The objectives of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament are;
- Cessation of the nuclear arms race.
- Prevention of nuclear war.
- Prevention of the weaponization of outer space, and so forth.
Basically, this body is functioning with the primary goal of preventing the procurement of nuclear arms and preventing wars to establish sustainable peace.
Pakistan’s assumption of this conference’s presidency is quite significant. It puts Pakistan at the center stage of global discourse on disarmament and arms control. This role is crucial to sustainable international peace and security.
