Pakistan Proposes New Arabian Sea United States

Pakistan has floated a proposal to develop a new deep-water port at Pasni on the Arabian Sea, offering the United States a potential gateway to key trade and mineral routes in South Asia. The initiative, currently under discussion at the advisory level, seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation in investment, energy, and critical minerals, marking a fresh chapter in Pakistan–U.S. engagement.

According to officials familiar with the proposal, the plan envisions American investors developing Pasni into a modern terminal linked by rail to Pakistan’s mineral-rich interior. The project would focus on the export of copper, antimony, and rare earth elements, vital for global industries such as batteries, defense systems, and renewable energy technologies.

Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reportedly presented the concept to U.S. President Donald Trump during their recent meeting at the White House. The discussions underscored both nations’ intent to reset relations through trade and industrial partnerships, moving beyond the traditional security-centric framework.

The proposed Pasni development would complement ongoing collaboration in Pakistan’s mineral sector, including a memorandum of understanding with U.S.-based Strategic Metals, aimed at advancing exploration and refining capacity. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader goal of diversifying foreign partnerships while maintaining existing ties with China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

Analysts describe the proposal as a strategic balancing effort, offering Washington an alternative foothold near the China-backed port of Gwadar. If approved, the project could attract up to $1.2 billion in joint investment, boosting Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic resilience.

Officials emphasized that the proposed port would serve commercial and logistical purposes only, with no plans for foreign military basing. The initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional connectivity, responsible development, and revitalized economic diplomacy with the United States.
