President Trump Vows To Address Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions

Oct 14, 2025 | Latest News, Global Affairs

United States President Donald Trump today addressed reporters while commencing his Middle East visit, acknowledging rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and committing to take up the issue upon his return to Washington.

President Trump, who departed for Israel to address the Knesset before heading to Egypt for a world leaders’ summit on the Gaza war, described himself as highly effective at conflict resolution.

“I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said, I’ll have to wait till I get back. I am doing another one. Because I am good at solving wars,” President Trump told the press corps.

Claiming Credit for Ceasefires and Economic Leverage

The President reiterated his previous claims of resolving complex, long-standing global conflicts. He stated that the recently brokered Gaza ceasefire would mark the eighth conflict he has helped conclude.

He specifically cited the dispute between India and Pakistan as a conflict he resolved rapidly, crediting the use of economic pressure, namely the threat of significant tariffs.

“For example, between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I am going to put big tariffs on you both, like 100 per cent, 150 per cent, and 200 per cent. I had that thing settled in 24 hours,” President Trump asserted. He emphasized that without tariffs, such a resolution would have been impossible.

Nobel Peace Prize and Humanitarian Impact

Reflecting on his efforts, the President noted the humanitarian success of his diplomatic actions.

“I saved millions of lives… In all fairness to the Nobel committee, it was for 2024. This was picked for 2024. But there are those who say you could make an exception because a lot of things happened during 2025 that are done and complete and great. But I did not do this for the Nobel. I did this for saving lives.”

Middle East Diplomatic Mission Underway

President Trump’s visit is centered on solidifying regional peace following the first-phase agreement for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The agreement, mediated by the US, alongside Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, includes the release of hostages by Hamas and prisoners/detainees by Israel.

The President is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Monday and will travel to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt for a world leaders’ summit focused on ending the Gaza conflict. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also confirmed to attend the summit.
