Defense, Diplomacy, and Deterrence: Pakistan MoFA Outlines Strategic Stance

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) held its weekly press briefing, presided over by Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi. In a comprehensive session, the Ministry detailed Pakistan’s high-level diplomatic engagements in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, while issuing stern warnings regarding escalating border tensions with Afghanistan and the growing defense nexus between India and Israel.

High-Level Diplomacy: Qatar and the OIC

The briefing opened with a summary of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Qatar (Feb 23–24).

  • Strategic Partnership: The Prime Minister and His Highness the Ameer of Qatar reviewed the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, with Qatar committing to elevating the economic partnership to a higher strategic level.

  • Ameer to Visit Pakistan: The Ameer has graciously accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan later this year.

  • OIC Mission: Deputy PM/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Extraordinary Ministerial Session of the OIC. The mission focuses on Israel’s illegal annexation attempts and the reclassification of Palestinian land as “state land” in the Occupied West Bank.

Border Conflict and the Afghan Frontier

Addressing the “Open War” scenario along the Durand Line, the Spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defense.

  • Precision Strikes: MoFA reiterated that the intelligence-based strikes against seven terrorist camps in Afghanistan were “proportional” and directed solely at identified threats to ensure the safety of Pakistani citizens.

  • The “Fitna” Threat: Pakistan expressed disappointment over threatening statements from Kabul, noting that terrorist attacks from Afghan soil have increased by nearly 400% in the last 18 months.

  • Diplomatic Security: The Ministry demanded “foolproof security” for Pakistani diplomats and aid workers currently in Afghanistan, emphasizing that Pakistan takes the security of Afghan diplomats in Islamabad with equal seriousness.

The “Hexagon” and Regional Security

The Spokesperson addressed the controversial “Hexagon of Alliance” proposed by Israel, which includes India.

  • Seized of the Threat: Pakistan is “alive to the threat” posed by the defense ties between Israel and India, specifically the platforms being used against Pakistan.

  • Robust Preparedness: “We have robust military preparedness to defend and deter any Indian aggression,” the Spokesperson stated, emphasizing that Pakistan remains cognizant of the systems being inducted by New Delhi.

19 Years of Samjhauta Express: A Call for Justice

On the 19th anniversary of the Samjhauta Express terror attack, Pakistan condemned the “callousness” of the Indian government.

  • State Accomplice: The Ministry described the acquittal of mastermind Swami Aseemanand and Lt. Col. Purohit as evidence of India’s role as an “official and political accomplice” in terrorism.

  • Saffron Terror: Pakistan warned that “Hindutva extremism” has intensified under the current Indian regime, demanding a fair trial for the families of the 44 Pakistani martyrs.

Human Rights and Operation “Swift Retort”

  • IIOJK Atrocities: The Ministry strongly condemned the recent extrajudicial killing of three Kashmiri youths in Kishtwar, calling it a “fake encounter” and a manifestation of Indian state terrorism.

  • Operation Swift Retort: Marking the anniversary of Feb 27, 2019, Pakistan paid tribute to the Air Force for the “magnanimity” shown in returning the captured Indian pilot while demonstrating superior military capability.

  • Non-Interference: Responding to discussions in the British Parliament regarding domestic Pakistani politics, the Spokesperson clarified that while Pakistan engages in HR dialogue, it does not allow interference in its internal affairs.
