Trump Claims ‘Eight Planes Were Shot Down’ in Pakistan–India Escalation; India Rejects Narrative

Former US President Donald Trump has again claimed that the United States played a decisive role in ending the brief Pakistan–India military escalation earlier this year, stating that “eight planes were essentially shot down” during the confrontation.

Speaking at the American Business Forum in Miami, Trump said he threatened to halt trade talks with both Islamabad and New Delhi unless they de-escalated immediately.

“Eight planes, seven planes were shot down — an eighth was badly wounded,” Trump said.
“I told them: we’re not making any trade deals if you are at war. A day later I got a call — ‘We made peace.’”

Trump did not provide evidence to support the claim. In earlier speeches, he has repeatedly stated that five to seven aircraft were downed. Both Pakistan and India have not confirmed this number publicly, and independent reporting from the time of the clash suggested only limited air engagements.

Trump also praised Pakistan’s leadership, referring to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying relations improved significantly during that period.

India, meanwhile, disputes Trump’s account, insisting that no foreign intervention influenced the ceasefire and that de-escalation occurred through bilateral communications.
