Former U.S. President Donald Trump asserted during an interview on CBS News’ 60 Minutes that several nations, including Pakistan, Russia, and China, are actively engaged in nuclear weapons testing, though secretly. Trump’s claim was made while defending his recent directive for the U.S. Department of War to resume nuclear weapons testing—a practice the U.S. has observed a moratorium on since 1992.
BREAKING: U.S President Donald Trump says that Pakistan has tested nuclear weapons.
“Pakistan has been testing. They don’t go and tell you about it. As powerful as they are, this is a big world. You don’t necessarily know where they’re testing. They test way underground.” pic.twitter.com/p7vRjCuuyr

When challenged by the interviewer about the accuracy of his claims, Trump stated that the U.S. cannot be the only country that doesn’t test, arguing that such activity is essential to ensure the functionality of the nation’s arsenal. He suggested that other countries are testing “way underground” without public disclosure.
The claims immediately drew international pushback. China’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Mao Ning, publicly denied the assertion, stating that as a “responsible nuclear-weapons state,” China has always abided by its commitment to suspend testing. She urged the U.S. to “take concrete actions to safeguard the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime.”
The status of the nuclear testing moratorium, a cornerstone of global security, now faces potential disruption due to Trump’s insistence that the U.S. must test to maintain strategic parity, heightening tensions around the issue of nuclear proliferation. The Foreign Office of Pakistan has been reached for comment on the former President’s assertion regarding its activities.
