The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has formally accused the United States government of engaging in “pillaging, looting, and recolonization” during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.

Ambassador Samuel Moncada described the recent seizure of two Venezuelan oil tankers as “worse than piracy.” He emphasized that the United States lacks any legal jurisdiction in the Caribbean Sea to hijack sovereign vessels. “We are in the presence of a power that acts outside of international law, demanding that Venezuelans vacate our country and hand it over,” Moncada stated.

The Venezuelan delegation highlighted the following:
- The illegal naval blockade ordered on December 16 violates the UN Charter.
- The “armed aggression” against civilian vessels has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 100 people.
- The seizure of crude oil is a direct attempt to extort the Venezuelan people by cutting off vital national revenue.
President Nicolás Maduro noted from Caracas that Venezuela maintains “overwhelming support” within the Security Council, citing the firm positions taken by Russia and China against U.S. bullying. Venezuela calls upon the international community to reject this “template for future acts of force” against Latin American states.
