Abbott to Acquire Exact Sciences in $23 Billion Deal, Targeting Cancer Screening Market

Abbott has announced plans to acquire the cancer diagnostics company Exact Sciences in a major deal valued at approximately $23 billion, including Exact Sciences’ estimated $1.8 billion in net debt. The transaction, confirmed after market rumors drove a surge in Exact Sciences’ stock, involves Abbott paying shareholders $105 per share in cash.

This strategic move is designed to position Abbott to enter the rapidly expanding $60 billion U.S. cancer screening and precision oncology diagnostics market. Exact Sciences brings with it two key, market-leading products: the Cologuard colorectal cancer screening test, a convenient non-invasive at-home test, and the Oncotype DX precision oncology test.

The acquisition is expected to be immediately beneficial to Abbott’s revenue growth and gross margin, and upon its anticipated completion in the second quarter of 2026, it will push Abbott’s total annual diagnostics sales beyond $12 billion.
