Meta Unleashes AI Creativity: Facebook Posts Get Animated Makeover

Meta officially launched a new suite of AI-powered creative tools designed to transform the Facebook user experience. Aimed at making the platform more “playful and expressive,” the update introduces three primary features: Animated Profile Pictures, the “Restyle” tool for Stories and Memories, and Animated Backgrounds for text-based Feed posts. These updates leverage Meta’s advanced generative AI to help users personalize their presence beyond traditional static images and basic filters.

The flagship feature, Animated Profile Pictures, allows users to turn a standard headshot into a short, motion-filled clip. By selecting presets like “Wave,” “Confetti,” “Heart,” or “Party Hat,” Meta AI adds realistic depth and movement to the subject’s face and surroundings. For best results, Facebook recommends using clear, single-person photos facing the camera. Simultaneously, the Restyle tool gives Stories and Memories a total aesthetic overhaul, allowing users to reimagined photos as “Anime,” “Illustrated,” or “Ethereal” through simple text prompts or preset moods.

To boost visibility for written updates, the new Animated Backgrounds replace the old static color blocks with moving scenes like rolling waves or swaying autumn leaves. Accessible via a new rainbow “A” icon, these backgrounds are designed to stop the “doom scroll” and make text updates stand out. Meta has confirmed that seasonal styles for holidays and major cultural events will be added throughout the year.
