U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the newly established Board of Peace will pledge more than $5 billion for the reconstruction and humanitarian relief of Gaza. The formal commitment is set to be unveiled on February 19 during the board’s inaugural meeting at the newly renamed Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. This landmark funding aims to address the estimated $70 billion in damages caused by years of conflict.
The President also confirmed that member states have committed “thousands of personnel” to a UN-authorized International Stabilization Force (ISF). This force, which includes a confirmed contingent of 8,000 Indonesian troops, will oversee the “full and immediate demilitarization” of Hamas and maintain local security. While regional powers like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and Israel have joined the board, several Western allies, including France, Germany, and the UK, remain cautious, citing concerns over the body’s potential to bypass traditional UN structures.

The February 19 summit will see heads of state from nearly 27 countries gather to formalize the transition to a technocratic Palestinian government. To ensure the peace holds, the U.S. has maintained a massive naval presence in the region, with the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford strike groups positioned to deter any regional interference during the transition.
