Global Condemnation Over Sydney’s Bondi Beach Attack | Urgent Warning Issued Over Disinformation Campaign

The world is united in grief and condemnation following a horrific gun attack at Bondi Beach, Sydney, on Sunday, which left ten people dead and wounded around a dozen others during a Jewish holiday event.

Australian police confirmed that one of the suspected gunmen was killed by police, and an improvised explosive device (IED) linked to the deceased offender was later found in a vehicle. Authorities have identified one of the suspects as Naveed Akram, from the Sydney suburb of Bonnyrigg, as the investigation proceeds.

The attack has been met with immediate and strong condemnation from leaders worldwide:

  • Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident “shocking and distressing,” assuring the public that emergency responders were working tirelessly.
  • Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attack on Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah, describing the perpetrators as “vile terrorists.”
  • Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep condolences, with the President stating, “Pakistan, itself a victim of terrorism, stands in solidarity with Australia and condemns violence against innocent civilians.” The Prime Minister added, “We stand in solidarity with the people and government of Australia in this difficult time.”

Critical Warning Regarding Deliberate Disinformation

While Australian law enforcement is focused on confirming the full identity and motivations of the attackers, there is grave concern regarding a malicious and coordinated disinformation campaign launched online following the tragedy.

Reports indicate that one of the confirmed attackers is of Afghani origin. However, certain coordinated accounts, including those linked to Indian, Afghani, and Israeli sources, have falsely and maliciously started naming an entirely uninvolved individual of Pakistani descent as a perpetrator.

The claim circulating online that an innocent Pakistani-descent individual, using a specific name and photograph, was involved in the Bondi Beach shooting is false, fabricated, and grossly misleading. This narrative is being aggressively amplified by coordinated propaganda accounts, including those linked to BJP media cells, with no basis in fact or credible verification.

This pattern is not journalism; it is weaponized misinformation designed to exploit tragedy and systematically instill hatred and bias against Pakistanis of all backgrounds. We demand serious scrutiny of this disinformation campaign and call for the origin of this false claim to be traced, exposed, and held accountable.

In this moment of profound tragedy, we emphasize that truth matters. Disinformation fuels hatred, and silence only enables it.
