European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, today commended Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, for his instrumental role in facilitating crucial talks between the United States and Iran. The commendation came during remarks preceding a strategic dialogue with Pakistan, highlighting the international community’s reliance on such diplomatic efforts to mitigate global crises.
Minister Kallas underscored the far-reaching impact of conflicts, particularly citing their influence on global energy and fertilizer prices. “It is a conflict that is having an impact on everybody and the world when it comes to the energy prices, prices of fertilisers,” Kallas stated, emphasizing the urgent need for enduring peace. She further stressed, “this is really what we need to see — the ceasefire really holding and the talks continuing.” Her comments reflect a clear call for sustained diplomatic engagement to ensure long-term stability and prevent resurgences of conflict that destabilize global markets and supply chains.
The EU diplomat also addressed the current volatile geopolitical landscape, characterized by “contested geopolitical environment, rising tensions everywhere and real risk of escalation.” In this context, she noted a shared commitment with Pakistan towards upholding and further developing a “rules-based international order.” This alignment on fundamental principles is crucial for fostering predictable and peaceful international relations in an era of increasing uncertainty.
Both the EU and Pakistan, Kallas affirmed, are actively “working towards global and regional stability, which is in both of our interests.” This shared objective extends to economic cooperation, with both parties committed to “promote free and fair trade and investment, and advance sustainable connectivity.” This multifaceted approach suggests a comprehensive strategy to not only address immediate security concerns but also to build a foundation for long-term prosperity and interconnectedness.
The strategic dialogue between the EU and Pakistan is expected to further solidify these shared priorities, paving the way for enhanced cooperation on critical global issues, from conflict resolution to economic development and the promotion of a stable international order.
