Instagram has launched a new, AI-powered feature called “Your Algorithm,” initially available for Reels, that provides users with unprecedented control and transparency over their content recommendations.

The tool, now rolling out in the US and coming soon globally in English, allows users to view and customize the interests that are shaping their feed, shifting away from the traditional “black box” nature of social media algorithms. By tapping an icon while watching a Reel, users can access a personalized summary, for example, “Lately you’ve been into creativity, sports hype, fitness motivation” which is generated by AI based on their activity.
Beneath this summary, users can manually select topics to see more or less of, and even add entirely new interests that Instagram missed. This personalization feature, which is more detailed and adaptable than TikTok’s similar “Manage Topics” tool, is designed to ensure Reels feel relevant and deeply tailored to the individual, improving user experience.
Instagram plans to expand this direct control to the Explore feed in the near future, representing a significant move by the platform to empower users and boost content relevance by turning passive consumption into active curation.
