In a significant escalation of rhetoric, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Saturday that Iran is currently facing a “full-fledged war” involving the United States, Israel, and several European nations. Speaking in an interview published by the official website of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian described the current pressure campaign against Tehran as more complex and difficult than the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq War. He asserted that Western powers are united in their goal to prevent Iran from maintaining its stability and independence.

Pezeshkian’s remarks come six months after a 12-day direct conflict in June 2025, during which Israel and the U.S. launched targeted strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iranian authorities reported over 1,000 casualties from those attacks, which also crippled major nuclear sites and halted diplomatic negotiations. Despite these setbacks and the recent reimposition of United Nations sanctions by the UK, France, and Germany, Pezeshkian maintained that Iran’s military forces are now “stronger than ever” in terms of both manpower and equipment.

The President warned that any further military aggression would meet a “decisive response.” These comments precede a high-stakes meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida, where Netanyahu is expected to push for further military action against Iran’s ballistic missile program. Meanwhile, Trump has continued to revive his “maximum pressure” policy, aiming to economically isolate Tehran through stringent oil and trade sanctions.
