OGDC Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery in Kohat

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery at its Baragzai X-01 exploratory well in the Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. This marks the company’s second major success in just forty-eight hours, following a similar gas find in Sindh. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters to test multiple geological layers. During the latest testing phase, the site produced 225 barrels of oil per day and 1.01 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.

The discovery was made under the Nashpa exploration license within the Lumshiwal and Hangu formations. Experts conducted a specialized drill stem test which confirmed the commercial viability of the reservoir. This find is particularly vital for Pakistan as it struggles with high energy import costs and dwindling domestic reserves. By tapping into these indigenous resources, the government hopes to reduce the burden on foreign exchange and improve the national fuel supply.

OGDC officials stated that the successful drilling of this “slant” well proves the high potential of the Kohat region for future exploration. The company plans to integrate these new flows into the national grid as quickly as possible. This breakthrough is expected to encourage further investment in the country’s energy sector and provide a much-needed boost to industrial productivity across the province.
