Domestic Investigation and Arrests
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies successfully busted the network behind the Friday attack within 24 hours. Key developments include:
- Network Dismantled: The mastermind and four facilitators were arrested during high-stakes overnight raids in Peshawar and Nowshera.
- Transnational Links: Investigations identified the mastermind as an Afghan national affiliated with the militant Islamic State (IS) group, with evidence indicating the attacker received training in Afghanistan.
- Foreign Funding Allegations: Minister Naqvi highlighted evidence of external financing and logistical support, alleging a surge in funding from regional adversaries to destabilize Pakistan.
Security Force Sacrifices
During the successful operations to apprehend the suspects, a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police Assistant Sub-Inspector was martyred, and several personnel were injured. The Interior Minister praised the “unshaken resolve” of the security forces, stating that the entire ISIS-linked cell involved in this incident has been neutralized.
