Pakistan and Norway have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism, prevention of illegal immigration, police training, and mutual legal assistance during a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Interior, marked the first visit by a Norwegian Foreign Minister to Pakistan in a decade. Both leaders discussed regional security dynamics, including the situation in Afghanistan. Minister Naqvi emphasized that Afghan soil continues to be utilized for cross-border terrorism against Pakistan, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to standing as a bulwark against global threat networks.
Addressing migration security, Minister Naqvi highlighted that Pakistan’s strict enforcement measures have yielded a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration to Europe. He noted that promoting structured legal migration channels remains critical to combating human smuggling effectively.
Foreign Minister Eide commended Pakistan’s active diplomatic role in de-escalating US-Iran tensions and lauded the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Norway across health, politics, and social sectors.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and senior government officials. Foreign Minister Eide’s two-day official visit involved engagements with top civilian and military leadership to expand trade, technology, climate resilience, and defense ties.
