In a powerful demonstration of the deep-rooted and brotherly relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Major General Humaid Abdulla Alremeithi, the Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, was conferred with Pakistan’s most prestigious military award, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military). The award ceremony, held at the Presidency in Islamabad, was a testament to his outstanding services and a symbol of the enduring partnership between the two nations’ armed forces.
President of Pakistan Honors UAE Naval Chief
The investiture ceremony was presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari, who bestowed the honor upon Major General Alremeithi. President Zardari highlighted that the award was a recognition of the UAE naval chief’s exemplary services and that his visit underscored the strong fraternal ties between Pakistan and the UAE. In a meeting following the ceremony, the President reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening these relations, which are deeply rooted in history and bolstered by strong people-to-people bonds.
The President expressed his satisfaction with the active participation of the UAE Navy in the recent Aman Dialogue-25 and Exercise Aman-25, emphasizing the confidence the UAE has placed in the professional expertise of the Pakistan Navy. He assured Major General Alremeithi of Pakistan’s readiness to continue supporting the UAE Navy’s manpower requirements and to further enhance collaboration between the two naval forces. Major General Alremeithi, for his part, expressed his personal affinity for Pakistan, mentioning his four years of training at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi.
Enhancing Interoperability, and Joint Training
Separately, Major General Alremeithi engaged in in-depth discussions with Pakistan’s top military brass, including Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff. The meetings focused on reviewing the evolving global and regional geo-strategic environment and exploring new avenues for defense cooperation.
In his meeting with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) chief, the UAE naval commander conveyed the UAE Armed Forces’ keen interest in drawing from the PAF’s rich operational experience in multi-domain warfare. He noted that the PAF’s “combat-proven doctrine” and operational framework are invaluable for international partners. This interest comes in the wake of the successful multi-domain operations conducted by the PAF during a military standoff in May, where the PAF reportedly downed six Indian fighter jets, including French-made Rafale jets. The hour-long aerial engagement, considered the largest air battle in decades, showcased the effectiveness of Pakistan’s military capabilities and its Chinese-made J-10s.
Major General Alremeithi further underscored the UAE’s strong desire to conduct joint exercises with the PAF, highlighting the immense value of mutual learning, operational synergy, and enhanced interoperability. He stated that the UAE Air Force is eager to participate in joint training initiatives in Pakistan, an undertaking he described as a vital cornerstone in cementing the brotherly relations between the two nations.
This series of high-level engagements and the conferral of the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) reaffirm the strategic defense partnership between Pakistan and the UAE, paving the way for a new era of intensified cooperation and joint operability.
