Former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert has been sacked as Indonesia’s head coach after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision came following a 1-0 defeat to Iraq, which left Indonesia bottom of their qualifying group.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirmed that Kluivert and his entire coaching team — including assistants Alex Pastoor and Danny Landzaat, as well as U-23 coach Gerald Vanenburg and U-20 coach Frank van Kempen, have all been dismissed.
Kluivert, who took charge in January 2025 on a two-year deal, managed eight matches, with three wins, one draw, and four losses.
A legendary striker from Ajax’s 1995 Champions League-winning squad, Kluivert went on to star for Barcelona, Newcastle United, and PSV, before turning to coaching. His exit marks yet another setback for Indonesia, which now plans to restructure its coaching setup ahead of future competitions.
