Spain has successfully launched the SpainSat NG II satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, marking the completion of the SPAINSAT NG secure communications programme, the most ambitious space project in the nation’s history.

Developed by Airbus for Hisdesat, the satellite strengthens Spain’s position as a technological and strategic leader in space communications. At over six tonnes and 7.3 metres tall, SpainSat NG II provides secure and resilient communications for the Spanish Armed Forces, NATO, the European Commission, and allied nations.
The satellite is a twin of SpainSat NG I, launched earlier this year. Together, they form a constellation covering two-thirds of the globe, from the Americas to Asia.
Equipped with anti-jamming, cybersecurity, and nuclear-shielding technologies, this milestone boosts Spain’s technological sovereignty and enhances Europe’s strategic autonomy in defense communications.
