The UN has warned that Syria remains gripped by one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with over 70% of its population in need of aid.

In a Security Council briefing, OCHA’s Ramesh Rajasingham reported that clashes, drought, and economic collapse continue to exacerbate suffering. Recent violence in Aleppo displaced families, while wildfires in Lattakia, Tartous, and Homs affected thousands.
More than seven million Syrians remain internally displaced, and over 2.4 million children are out of school. Despite limited funding,
UN agencies are reaching 3.4 million people monthly with food, healthcare, and education support. However, the humanitarian response plan is only 19% funded, forcing critical service cuts, including healthcare and water trucking.
Rajasingham urged the international community to de-escalate conflict, restore funding, and invest in reconstruction to ensure Syria’s fragile recovery and sustainable return for millions of displaced citizens.
