Ironclad Security: Pakistan Launches Special Unit to Guard Chinese Nationals

In a significant move to bolster safety, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced the creation of a Special Protection Unit (SPU) in Islamabad dedicated solely to the security of Chinese nationals. This decision came during a high-level meeting in Beijing with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, marking a new chapter in the security partnership between the two neighbors.

The meeting focused on a joint strategy to tackle terrorism and protect the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). With recent attacks on Chinese engineers and workers weighing heavily on bilateral relations, Pakistan is stepping up its game. The two nations agreed to:

1. Rapid Response System: Developing a quick-action framework to handle terror threats immediately.
2. Police Training: Expanding programs to boost the professional skills of Pakistani police using Chinese expertise.
3. Information Sharing: Creating a seamless loop of data exchange between the security agencies of both countries.

Naqvi further emphasized that the safety of Chinese citizens is Pakistan’s top priority, a sentiment echoed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who views Chinese investment as vital for Pakistan’s economic future. Beyond physical security, the talks delved into the digital world. Pakistan is looking to adopt Chinese AI technologies and support to strengthen its newly formed National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
