Pakistan and Indonesia Forge Strategic Investment Partnership in High-Level Talks

In a significant move to deepen economic integration, delegation-level talks between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Indonesia are currently underway at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Islamabad.

High-Level Economic Diplomacy

The Pakistani delegation is led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The Indonesian side is headed by the visiting Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry and CEO of the Indonesian Sovereign Wealth Fund (Danantara), Rosan Roeslani.

The discussions mark a pivotal shift in the bilateral relationship, moving beyond traditional trade toward a robust partnership in investment and downstream industrial cooperation.

Strategic Focus Areas

Both delegations are engaged in comprehensive dialogue aimed at unlocking the immense potential of the D-8 and OIC member nations. Key areas of focus include:

  • Investment Synergy: Leveraging the Indonesian Sovereign Wealth Fund (Danantara) for joint ventures in Pakistan’s emerging markets.
  • Downstream Industry: Collaboration in value-added manufacturing and industrial processing.
  • Trade Expansion: Addressing barriers and enhancing the volume of bilateral trade through the existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) framework.

Warm Reception in Islamabad

Minister Rosan Roeslani arrived in the capital late last night, where he was received at the airport by the Director General (East Asia Pacific) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan. This visit underscores the high priority both nations accord to South-South cooperation and regional economic stability.

The ongoing talks are expected to lay the groundwork for a roadmap of increased capital flow and technical exchange, positioning both nations as central economic hubs in their respective regions.
