Iran intensified its military campaign against neighboring Gulf states on Monday by launching fresh missile and drone strikes that targeted critical energy infrastructure and caused significant civilian casualties. The most severe impact occurred at Bahrain’s sprawling Al Ma’ameer oil facility, where a strike caused a large fire and forced the state-owned firm Bapco to declare “force majeure.” This legal declaration allows the company to halt its contractual obligations due to circumstances beyond its control, joining energy giants in Qatar and Kuwait who have made similar moves. These disruptions have sent global oil prices soaring to their highest levels since early 2022, causing stock markets across Asia to plunge as investors fear a prolonged energy crisis.

The humanitarian cost of the strikes is rising, with a drone attack on Bahrain’s Sitra island injuring 32 people, including a two-month-old baby and a teenager with severe head injuries. In response to the worsening security situation and previous drone hits on diplomatic compounds, the United States has ordered all non-emergency government staff and their families to evacuate Saudi Arabia immediately. Despite high-tech air defenses in the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia intercepting several incoming waves of drones and missiles, the persistent nature of the attacks has already claimed 21 lives across the region. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that these strikes will continue as long as regional territories are used by Western forces to launch operations against the Islamic Republic.
